A színjátékot az új Magyar Színház mutatta be 1942. március 2-án.
Fedák Sáriról Németh László – egy évvel a bemutató előtt – így írt:
„Íme a Magyar Operett. Egy asszony, aki nagy egyéniség, s amellett elég ripacsirta, hogy jól tudta érezni magát, sőt hitt is ebben a flitteres, nagyherceges operettvilágban. […] Egy asszony […] lehet szinte gyermekin együgyű, érzelmes, majdnem ordináré és ugyanakkor mégis valaki. Fedákban ezt imádta a közönség, amely az ő kótákkal packázó hangjában, áradó jókedvében, hars önbizalmában: nemcsak operettet kapott, de különös nyers, már-már magyar ízzel kapta a maga életkedvét.”

The premiere of the operetta was at the New Hungarian Theatre on 2 March 1942.
Writer László Németh wrote of actress Sári Fedák one year before the premiere:
‘Behold the Hungarian Operetta. A woman, a momentous personality, but also a prating bird on the side, who is able to enjoy herself, and even believe in this theatrical world full of glitter and grand dukes. (…) A woman (…) who can even be childishly ignorant, emotional, almost plain, but still be a weighty person. This is precisely what the audiences liked in Fedák, who, through her voice full of thrills, jocundity and boisterous self-confidence, presented them not only the true meaning of the operetta, but with it, also her momentous appetite for life, in a strange, raw, essentially Hungarian manner.’
