A Pesti Magyar Színház, az „első” Nemzeti Színház épületét, mely 1837-től várta a nézőket, csupán néhány tárgyi emlékkel lehet felidézni. A Kerepesi út elején, a mai Rákóczi út és Múzeum körút sarkán álló teátrum egyik legbecsesebb ereklyéje a királyi páholyt díszítő címer. A színház épületének 1913-ban lebontott köveiből építette Jászai Mari saját kriptáját a Kerepesi temetőben, s több oszlopot felfedezhetünk Budapest közterein.

The Hungarian Theatre of Pest was opened in 1837 and was soon renamed the National Theatre. As the original building no longer stands, it is very difficult to evoke the memory of this important institution and of the building which stood at the crossing of the present-day Rákóczi street and Múzeum boulevard. We only have a handful of artefacts preserved, like the coat of arms you can see here, which was one of the most precious relics, decorating the royal box. Actress Mari Jászai used some of the stones of the building demolished in 1913 to have her own shine built in the Kerepesi cemetery, and we can find many columns in the public squares of Budapest which were build from these stones.
