Csortos Gyula trikója és fekete filc keménykalapja

Molnár Ferenc Liliom című művének ősbemutatóján, 1909-ben, mely nem aratott igazi sikert, Hegedűs Gyula játszotta a címszerepet. Az 1919-es felújításon, talán Molnár kérésére, ligeti kikiáltóként Csortos Gyula lépett színpadra.

„Csortos egy hatalmas, új csirkefogót állított talpra, aki sikeresen tudott megmérkőzni az előbbi Liliom emlékével. Csortos vadabb, jasszabb, lázadóbb, cinikusabb, alfonzabb, félelmesebb; mintha csak rá lenne írva a szerep” – írta a Budapesti Hírlap kritikusa.

The world premiere of Liliom in 1909 was not a big success, it had Gyula Hegedüs in the title role. The 1919 renewal, maybe on the request of Molnár himself, featured Gyula Csortos as the cocky carousel barker.

‘Csortos brought to life a momentous, new scoundrel, who could easily cope with the memory of the earlier Liliom. Csortos is wilder, cooler, more rebellious, more cynical, more frightening, as if the role had been written for him specifically.’ – wrote the reviewer of Budapesti Hírlap.
