Bárdos Artúr úgy indult, mint a Nyugat első nemzedékéből annyian: jogot végzett, újságíró lett, verseskötettel jelentkezett. De ő nem elégedett meg ennyivel: életét a magyar színművészet megújításának szentelte. Színjáték címmel 1910-ben rövid életű lapot alapított, 1912-től pedig hét alkalommal teremtett színházat – sokszor a semmiből. Igényes műsorpolitikát folytatott, egyike a nagy színészfelfedezőknek. Sokan azt hiszik, kényszerből vagy vakmerőségből állított színpadra ismeretlen fiatalokat. A színház műhelytitkai című könyve azonban bizonyítja felkészültségét, elméleti tudását, egyéni módszerének megalapozottságát.

Artúr Bárdos started like so many others from the first generation of Nyugat literary magazine: he studied law, became a journalist and came out with a volume of poems. But this wasn’t enough for him: he decided to dedicate his whole career to the renewal of the Hungarian theatre life. In 1910 he founded a short-lived theatre journal and, from 1912 onwards, founded a theatres on seven occasions – many times from scratch. He focused on high-quality programming, he was one of the biggest theatre explorers in our country. Many believe that he offered the stage to so-far unknown young people simply out of necessity or recklessness. His book, however, titled The trade secrets of theatre, proves the quality of his preparation, his profound knowledge of theory and the solid foundation of his unique method.
