A magyar kultúra nemzetépítő és nemzetfenntartó jelentőségének elismerése ünnepélyes és intézményes formában is kifejezésre jutott, midőn [Horthy Miklós] kormányzó tudósok, írók és művészek részére a Corvin-rendet alapította. Az alapítás 1930-ban történt, a szegedi Nemzeti Emlékcsarnok avatása alkalmából – írta Herczeg Ferenc 1940-ben. Hevesi Sándor (1873–1939), a Nemzeti Színház igazgatója, az elsők között kapta meg a kitüntetést.

Playwright Ferenc Herczeg wrote in 1940: ‘The importance of the role the Hungarian culture plays in the creation and preservation of the nation was recognized in an institutional and festive manner by Governor Miklós Horthy founding the Corvin Order awarding outstanding scientists, writers and artists.’ The award was first given out in 1930, together with the inauguration of the National Memorial Hall in Szeged. Sándor Hevesi (1873–1939) was the director of the National Theatre, one of the first recipients of the award.
