A magyar táncművészet kevés előadójáról és még kevesebb alkotójáról mondható el, hogy munkásságával nemzetközi hírnévre tett volna szert. Imre Zoltán, a halhatatlan polihisztor, táncos, koreográfus, képzőművész, társulatvezető, filmes fájdalmasan rövid pályafutása egy igazi géniuszé. A Szegedi Balettet újraalapító mester, generációk kinevelője és példaképe már huszonévesen, emigrálása után nem sokkal Európa-szerte jegyzett táncossá emelkedett. Németországban, Nagy-Britanniában a XX. századi kortárs művészet olyan nagyjaival dolgozhatott együtt, közvetlen kapcsolatban, vagy „egy kézfogásnyi távolságra”, mint Pina Bausch, vagy David Bowie. Emlékét, többek közt, élete utolsó szakaszában használt próbacipője és próbaruhája őrzi a Táncszobában.

Very few of the Hungarian dancers or choreographers can be said to have had an international reputation. Such a figure was Zoltán Imre, the immortal Renaissance man, dancer, choreographer, fine artist, theatre company leader, filmmaker, who had a painfully short career, but that of a genius. The master who refounded the Szeged Ballet, was a role model and educator of several generations of dancers, quickly becoming an internationally acclaimed dancer shortly after he had left Hungary. In Germany, and Great Britain he cooperated with such important artists of the 20^th century like Pina Bausch or Dawid Bowie. We remember him through his rehearsal shoes and clothing in the dance room.
